Gaining Weight

It’s hard to believe: I’ve gained 200 pounds. Well, it didn’t happen over night. At birth I weighed nine pounds. Today, I’m tipping the scales at 209. Who would have thought that only 71,000 meals would do that. A lifetime of eating can really effect the body.

Likewise a lifetime of sinning, doing our own thing, feeding our desires will have drastic effects on our life. One day you wake up (hopefully) and ask, “How did I get this way?” I pray that when that happens, you will realize that our only salvation is Jesus.

Galatians 6:8, NIV
“The one who sows to please his sinful nature, from that nature* will reap destruction; the one who sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life.”

If You Only Knew

Recently, a friend posted on her family vacation to Florida that she was more excited than Zoe, her daughter…she doesn’t know what’s coming!
We, as Christians, ought to more excited about the future than those without Jesus…we know what’s and who’s coming.

James 5:8, NIV
“You too, be patient and stand firm, because the Lord’s coming is near.”

Previously Owned Lives

While trying to sell my car, one prospective buyer said “That’s a high price for a used car.” I replied, “It may be used, but it’s not used up.” It still has may years and miles to go.
You may have put many miles on your life while under your ownership – but you are not “used up.” Give your life to Jesus. He’s paid the ultimate price for it! You will discover that God can do much more and much better with it.

1 Corinthians 6:19-20, NIV
“Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body.”

It’s Really Not That Hard To Be Humble

Recently, while watching a stage production of “Snow White” starring my granddaughter in the title role, I was reminded of a truth: about the time you think you’re the fairest one of all, you discover there’s someone more fair. (If not more fair, more beautiful.)

You probably aren’t the worst – but you definitely aren’t the best.

Proverbs 16:18, NIV
“Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall.”

Soul Graft

Recently, I had to have a bone graft in my upper mouth. The periodontist said she would be using bovine bone. My questions to Dr. Prince:
“Will you use a cow bone or bull bone?” (Neither, it was a steer bone.)
“Will I now be a vegetarian?” “Will I be a cannibal if I eat a T-bone steak?”
(No, but you might eat at Chik-fil-more often.)
“One of my family members wanted to know if this will change my DNA?” (No.)
Having a little Christianity grafted into your life will not make you a child of God, a part of the kingdom of God or destined to spend eternity in heaven. Only experiencing the new birth in Christ can do all this.
John 3:3 (NIV)
“In reply Jesus declared, ‘I tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again.’”

A Good Hair Day

I’ve had a good hair day. It’s the one two inches above my left ear. Number 21,546. A good hair day is when it doesn’t fall out.
Just think, the Father cares so much about us that He even numbers and knows the number of each hair on our head. Why should we worry about any thing?
Matthew 10:30 (NIV)
“And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered.”

Presidential Memory Loss

Israel, and then Egypt, was in for trouble when a pharaoh came to the throne who couldn’t remember Joseph and what he had done (Genesis 1:8). Likewise, America, and then the world, is in trouble because a president has shone that he can’t remember what Thomas Jefferson and others who framed the constitution of the United States of America did.

What’s worse is that we, the people of the United States, seem to have forgotten as well.

Revelation 2:5 (NIV)
“Remember the height from which you have fallen! Repent and do the things you did at first.”

The Final Word

Most of us like to get in the final word. Whoever has the final word in a matter, has the most important and relevant thing to say. In case someone may have forgotten, the order of commands given by Jesus is: “repent, follow, love and make disciples.” The seven last words of Jesus enable us for the eighth and final word of Jesus…”Make disciples.”

Matthew 28:19-20 (Young’s Literal Translation)
19 “Having gone, then, disciple all the nations, (baptizing them–to the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all, whatever I did command you,) and lo, I am with you all the days–till the full end of the age.”

I’M SORRY.

If you subscribe to my blog, you may have gotten several emails in the last few hours. I apologize. The host for my blog evidently resent many. It’s probably something this old preacher did wrong. However, I thought I did something wrong once before – but I was mistaken. Please, don’t unsubscribe because of this blunder. The problem has been fixed. Thank you for understanding and for your patience.

Luke 17:4, NIV
“If he sins against you seven times in a day, and seven times comes back to you and says, ‘I repent,’ forgive him.”
