Does God Save the Best Until Last?
James 1:17 (NIV)
“Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.”
We know that Jesus did his first miraculous sign at a wedding in Cana of Galilee where he turned water into wine. The master of the banquet said to the bridegroom: “Everyone brings out the choice wine first and then the cheaper wine after the guests have had too much to drink; but you have saved the best till now” (John 2:10). Like a many of us, the master was giving the credit to the wrong one. Jesus was the source of the best wine. It wasn’t that God saves the best until last – it’s that we often wait until all other resources are exhausted before we come to Him for help.
The truth is that whatever God gives, it is the best. Whether it’s wine at a wedding, water for thirsty Israelites in a wilderness or living water for all who come unto Him through Jesus.
When questions arise like: “Who gives what is best?” “Who gets the credit or who should we thank ?” ” Who should we trust in the first place?” The answer is simply: “God.”
