Friend or Acquaintence

Israel Houghton has written a wonderful little chorus that most of us like to sing in contemporary or traditional worship. It repeats (of course) the phrase “I am a friend of God: He calls me ‘friend.'”

WOW! Such a humbling, comforting, mind-boggling concept – that the eternal Creator of everything would care enough about us to identify Himself with us as a friend. Then too, we must remember that friendship is a two-way street. It is a reciprocal relationship. However, like many things in life, we humans often like the benefits without the investments. We want the promises that come with being His friend without any obligations in following Him.

Does He call you friend?

John 15:14 (NASB)
“You are my friends if you do what I command you.”

Thanks my friend and pastor for your remarks and reminders. In regards to this one I’m reminded of the scripture in Zephaniah 3:17 Where He stated that He Rejoices over us and quites us with His Love and even sings over us. WOW is all I can say in response.
