Understanding the Signs

The police officer had pulled over a car holding up traffic.
“Lady is there a reason why you were driving only 10 miles per hour?”
“That’s what the traffic sign said.”
“No, ma’am,” the officer correcting her said. “That’s the road sign: this is Highway 10. The speed limit is 45 miles per hour.”
Her visibly shaken husband sitting next to her said, “That’s what I was telling her when we were on Highway 110.”
It’s not enough to be able to read the signs; you need to understand what the signs mean.
Like people at the time Jesus was born, many people can read the signs of the times that God is posting; however, only a few know what they meant. Jesus IS coming again…and soon. You can tell people that, but they just don’t seem to listen or understand. That can be very dangerous!

Keep the Dream Alive

These depressing and hopeless words are found in the novel, play and music of “Les Miserables.” The first time they stung my heart was when Susan Boyle sang them in 2009 (see link).
The Apostle Paul might have had these thoughts when he was imprisoned in Jerusalem and God sent an angel to encourage him (Acts 23:11). Paul had dreamed of preaching in Rome; however, he was locked in a prison in Jerusalem. Letting life, or anything, kill your dream can be depressing, devastating and detrimental.
Don’t let life, or anything, kill your dream. Instead, fix your hope in the Lord who is faithful to fulfil what He has promised and He will bring to pass the dreams He puts in your hearts. Keep your hope in the Lord, not in the dream itself.

“Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for He who promised is faithful.”
The Look

Some people don’t have to say anything; they can just give you THE LOOK. Many people have been stopped dead in their tracks by THE LOOK. It can really communicate.
After the Apostle Peter had denied Jesus the third time, Jesus looked at Peter. THE LOOK conveyed to Peter:
- Conviction, saying “You have sinned, so repent.
- Confidence, saying “I know the future, so have hope.“
- Caution, saying “I am watching, so pray.”
- Compassion, saying “I love you even when you stray, so be faithful.
- Comfort, saying “I am trustworthy even when you are not, so rely on me.”
Keep your eyes on Jesus and notice when He gives you THE LOOK.

“The Lord turned and looked at Peter. And Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how He had told him, ‘Before a rooster crows today, you will deny Me three times.’”
Who’s the Boss?
When you are on a job, it’s always beneficial to remember who the boss is.
In your daily life as a believer, we ought to always remember who the boss is. Jesus Christ is not only our Savior, He is also our Lord or Boss. Keeping this in mind will make our decisions easier and we will have fewer conflicts. When we strive to please Him and do His will, we discover that it has been His pleasure to make our lives complete and joyous. Always remember who’s the Boss.

Being Thankful

Grace Yourself

Comments (1) Give yourself some grace. Many today find it very difficult to love themselves. Some self-help gurus would suggest taking a personal inventory of your positive traits, doing something good for others, stop being so hard on yourself or learn to live with it. While each of these may serve to ease your mind, why not just grace yourself.
Love is a grace you bestow on someone, not because they deserve or earn it, but because you decide to give it. Why not give it to yourself? Don’t try to earn your love or look for reasons to love yourself. DECIDE to love yourself. Hey, no offense, but if our perfect God can love us in all our imperfections then we can also – through Jesus Christ. Just look at yourself through the magnifying glass of the cross.
And remember, you are loved – by God, by me and by millions of born again Christians. You might as well love yourself too. (It will enable you in loving others as well.)
Romans 5:8
“But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”
In a Rut
Are you in a rut? Adrian Rogers and others have said that the word “way” literally means a “rut” like a chariot wheel would make in the road.
Are you in the way of others seeing Jesus? Or are you in The Way of Jesus? – following Him and walking in The Way (Jesus – John 14:6)? His way is the rut that ends in eternal life.
It’s not bad to be in a rut. It just depends in which rut you are living.

Designer Comfort
From jeans to cars, people seem to place a premium on “designer” items. Hopefully, these products were made according to the designers intentions.
Our God, the original and ultimate designer, is the “God of all comfort” (2 Corinthians 1:3) and intended for His people to be comforted. That’s one reason He sent the prophets in ages past (Isaiah 40:1) and the sends the Holy Spirit today (John 14:16). The Holy Spirit is referred to as The Comforter – that is “paraclete,” the Apostle John’s descriptive title.
In these troubling days, people everywhere are searching for comfort. One of the best ways for us to most clearly reflect the image of God is to be comforters. God doesn’t comfort us just to make us at peace but to enable us to comfort others with that same source of comfort. He comforts us to make us comforters. That’s the Designers intentions.
2 Corinthians 1:4 (NASB)
Who (GOD) comforts us in all our affliction so that we will be able to comfort those who are in any affliction with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.
